The Red Hot Chilli Mamas met 6 years ago when they began singing with a barbershop chorus. They joined together to do a one off comedy act at the Laycock Street Theatre and found they had a great rapport with each other on and off stage. They continued to entertain mainly doing 60's and Abba songs and it wasn't until the 1997 Chilli Festival at The Fragrant Garden did they actually come up with the name 'The Red Hot CHilli Mamas'
They put together a Latin American Show which they performed over the three days of the Chilli Festival with Spanish and Latin songs. Deciding to send themselves up, they modelled themselves on Carmen Miranda, complete with red glitter dresses, and fruit (not to mention
Chilli's) piled high on their heads.
It was at the 1997 Chilli Festival you could say they got their 'big break' into show business.
After the Chilli Festival the girls went on to regularly perform at The Rattlesnake Grill in Neutral Bay and other venues around the Central Coast and in Sydney.
They have appeared on Channel 10 Newcastle on the Today Show, Mike Whitney's Sydney
Weekender, and ABC Radio.
In 1998 they put together a 60's 70's show complete with Bouffant Hair, eyelashes and silver glitter dresses. This show has been popular with all age groups.
The emphasis is on audience participation in the shows, with extra costumes to accommodate 2
'Doo-wup' girls and an Elvis that gets 'chosen' from the audience.
